FTC gives a OK to Admob Acquisition

The deal of Admob aquisition of Google was delayed for months.  There was no official comment from the FTC.  It was rumored that the FTC would give a thumbs down to the Google/Admob Acquisition deal because of Google’s massive stronghold on the online advertising business, but they have agreed to give a GO to the deal.

When Apple released their iAd Platform the FTC believed that it would not be a monopoly if Google entered the market.  If Google was the only big player in mobile advertising then it would make sense why the FTC would refuse.  Google could quickly own a huge chunk of the mobile advertising market share, but Apple’s entry into the markets change everything.  Apple will have to go head to head with Google to compete for market share.

Many people are complaining that the Admob Acquisition would reduce consumer choice, because Google would quickly dominate.  I do believe that Google has an advantage in the fight for mobile advertising.  Google has a huge dominance in online advertising already.  Admob is one of the bigger companies in mobile advertising.  The only advantage Apple has that they have full control over the iPhone, which they can use to integrate ads into their platforms.

I think it is a fight that Google is likely to win, and it is for the good.  Google’s advance algorithms could provide publishers with more money and choice.
